Cryptonomicon: Neal Stephenson

That was one long book. The WWII storyline was excellent -- interesting and funny (Bobby Shaftoe!) and successfully jetted the characters and readers around the world. Loved it. The present day storyline however, I was not as fond of, though it definitely had its moments. Randy's relationship with the woman was actually almost offensive in places and the ending was laughable and kinda weird. Fun times overall though. Thanks for the multiple recommendations.

  • You know what? I laughed my butt off at this book. I've always had a weird love/hate relationship with Snowcrash, so I was a little wary of this book. But I really enjoyed the heck out of it. A few of the math/code/cryptography parts got slow...

  • Also, I'm totally interested in your comments on the Amy Shaftoe/ Randy relationship. If anything, Bobby was perhaps more offensive (but so charming, in a psychopathic way)... but I think I know what you're getting at. It seemed like parts were Stephenson sort of fetishizing the idea of Amy.

But I think I liked the idea of where Stephenson was going with the relationship, or where he was trying to go. If that makes sense.
